Past Episodes

Overview

The interview will take place through a recording service called Riverside, and will include video and audio. This means you'll need internet, a web-camera, a microphone, and headphones.

The interview should only last about 30-40 minutes, but we can go longer if we want. No worries!

This is not a live interview, which means everything is editable after the fact. I want to ensure that you are comfortable with every step of the process. 

Pro-tips

  1. Use Google Chrome or download the mobile app. The podcast recording studio is online. Download Chrome or the mobile app from one of the Apple or Google stores.
  2. Use a good web-camera. The camera you have on your phone or laptop is fine, but if you want to up your game, consider using a USB web-camera.
  3. Use a good microphone. Your Apple AirPods will work fine, but again, if you want to up your game, consider a good USB microphone.
  4. Use headphones. In order to record the best audio with no feedback, use a good set of headphones. 
  5. Think of your background. You don't want the entire Air Force community to see your underwear. Take a look at your background. 
  6. Find a quite place. Things are going to happen so don't worry. BUT, try to control sound issues before we start. Dogs barking, kids screaming, etc. 
  7. Research, research, research. You may not know everything (and that's ok), but spend some time researching the topic. Ask your supervisor or friends what they think. Do a quick Google search. 
  8. This isn't live. Remember that this is not live and we can cut anything out of the interview you don't feel comfortable with. After the interview we can discuss any sections that you may want to delete. I won't post anything without your approval. You are in complete control of the message you want to send. 

Interview Structure

Get to Know You Session. This section is a quick “get to know you” time with questions that range from “Are you married/Have kids?” to “Why did you choose the Air Force?” This session is to build a rapport with the audience.

The Essentials Session. This session is the core of the interview and will last approximately 30-35 minutes. It is more discussion based, and if we need to go down a rabbit trail, or take a little more time, then we’ll do it.

If you are interested in being interviewed on your AFSC, then the questions are listed below. If you are interested in another topic, then the questions will be more specific to that topic. 

Possible AFSC Questions

  • So, tell us a little bit about your career field? What does your average day look like?
  • What does tech school look like? Where? What can a new Airman expect at the school house?
  • What about the typical career path and upgrade training? What does that look like for a young Airman?
  • In your opinion, what are the pros to the career field? What is it that people love? Tell me about a time that you loved your job.
  • What about the cons? Are there any misled expectations for new Airman coming in? 
  • Any special duty assignments specific to your career field?
  • What does the deployment tempo look like? Is your job any different in a deployed environment vs day-to-day?
  • What about jobs as a civilian? What have others gone on to do/accomplish after their time in your career field?

The Freestyle Session. This session is your opportunity to speak freely to the question, “Your child/sibling/cousin came to you saying that they were going to join the Air Force. What words of advice would you give them on how to be successful?” The floor will be yours for between 5-10 minutes or so.
