Meals, Ready-to-Eat (MREs), similar to TOTMs (Tailored Operational Training Meal), are intended for use in the deployed environment. MREs have an average of 1,250 calories each so eating three MREs per day provides a total of roughly 3,750 calories (13% protein, 36% fat, and 51% carbohydrate).
It also provides 1/3 of the Military Dietary Reference Intake of macro and micronutrients recommended by the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine. Consuming three full MREs may provide you with more calories than you need so unless you are extremely active, you probably will not need to eat the whole thing at once.
If this is the case for you, select the foods that are the best source of energy and provide the most nutrients and skip the candies and desserts
